Stay tuned & thanks for being patient,
Hey y'all! I know I haven't been posting as frequently as usual, but I'm here to share exciting news today- A Southern Heart is currently "under construction" and will have a lovely new design within the next week or two!
Stay tuned & thanks for being patient,
Y’all I have exciting news today! I have officially enrolled in East Carolina University. Go Pirates!
I’ve grown up a Pirate and by grown up I truly mean born and raised a Pirate. I was wearing an ECU bib as an infant, dressing up in my purple and gold cheerleader uniform as a toddler, perfecting my Pirate t-shirt collection as a teen, and imagining my possible life as a “real Pirate” during my senior year.
I also applied to the University of South Carolina, NC State, and UNC-Chapel Hill. I went for many tours and stayed with friends at each school. There was a problem: I liked all of these schools, but didn’t love them.
For most of my life I was given “unofficial tours” at ECU that were filled with college tails from my brother and dad. I realized that I needed an official tour of the school, even though I thought I knew the campus like the backside of my hand, I wrong- there was so much more I hadn’t seen.
During my tour I saw the library, student center, classrooms, and many more places that my “fratatistic” brother probably never went to. As I was walking back from my tour across “The Mall” (basically the grassy common area that every college campus has) I got this little feeling in my tummy. I knew I belonged here.
I always assumed I would go to ECU (just because it’s the school I’ve grown up going to every Saturday in the fall) but going to tour the campus, I realized this is going to be my second home and I couldn’t be happier.
For all of you seniors or high schoolers trying to figure out the next step in your life…

Y'all, I am so excited for my first guest post of the year! I've teamed up with Sally, from Sweetly Sally to share our love of Jesus with our readers. Sally is a southern college gal, a lover of pink and simplicity. Be sure to show her some love and follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. I hope y'all enjoy!
If someone asked you, "What does God mean to you," how would you respond?
To me, God is love. God is my savior. God has perfect timing. God loves unconditionally. God holds us in the palm of His hand. God cares for us so deeply. God is sovereign. God is forgiving. God is understanding. Ultimately, God is perfect.
I have such a love for Jesus that is unexplainable. When someone once asked me what my views on Jesus and God were, I was wonderstruck, I was bewildered, I was stupefied. How does one even respond to this? God is so many amazing things that He is indescribable. He is unexplainable. Now I want to sing that song by Chris Tomlin... What a good song.. Go listen to it. It can be kind of hard to explain God and what he means to you, especially when asked on the spot, so I replied with an answer to a different question. I explained that God is what my life revolves around. God is who made and makes everything. God is sovereign. He has a plan for each and every one of us, a perfect plan, that is, and this plan is unique to each person, which ties in my favorite bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11, "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'Plans to prosper you, not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.'"
I started to explain that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and I am forever grateful. I then explained that we are all sinners, no matter how "good" we think we are. I sin just as much as the person next to me. But what's great is that God forgives all of those sins if we ask Him to. Now I don't know about you, but I think sometimes for me it can be hard to forgive even my brother for making a mean comment. But that's the glory of God. He is wonderful and forgiving. He loves unconditionally and that is what is so amazing about Him. That is what God means to me.
Stay tuned because Sally and I have more exciting things come soon!

Well, it feels as if an arctic blast has found a home in NC. Luckily, I found this super warm sweater at J.Crew. I am also sporting one of my favorite Christmas presents, my Tory Burch boots! They are so comfortable and are the perfect height for a short gal like me. I've also played sports my entire life so I tend to have wider calfs than most girls, but these boots are an absolute perfect fit. Check out the outfit details below!
How are you surviving sweater weather?
I'm not much for piling on makeup during the school weeks. So, I don't know what I would do
without my top 4 beauty products that I use almost daily! They truly make getting out of the
door in the morning much easier!
Crest 3D White | this toothpaste is the perfect way to get (and keep) those pearly whites...white
Neutrogena makeup remover wipes | a perfect way to wipe sweat, dirt, and the day away
Daisy by Marc Jacobs | one smell and you're hooked
Jergens Natural Glow | having a little color aways gives me a boost of confidence walking out the door
What are your favorite beauty products?
I'm going to admit, I've gone on a bit of a cleaning purge lately! And despite my (secret) hate for hard core cleaning, I've actually found a few benefits for this: my room is much cleaner and my parents aren't nagging me about the old cluttered bookshelf...plus a cleaned out closet gives me an excuse to go shopping!
Well, if I am being honest, I needed a little bit of motivation to get my "new year" cleaning on... so I wanted to share a little of that motivation with y'all! Here are some simple things that you can do a little clutter control on that won't take very long and can leave your room feeling fresh!
desk | take it one drawer at a time, just imagine how great it will feel when you can actually find your post-it notes
bed-side table | do you really need six books, four types of lotion, and a pen that's out of ink?
shoes | I found that I have three pairs of nude pumps, three!!
travel bags | boy oh boy did I need to do this one! It's amazing what you'll find in those pockets ($100)
These are clearly just a few simple tasks to get you started! But I promise, cleaning will relieve a little stress and make you a lotta happy!
Having any cleaning tips to share?
As if y'all haven't heard it enough, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
What better way to start a new year than with a new planner! I am an organizational freak (yes, I am admitting this) and I would die without my planner. For the longest time (5 years to be exact) I have used this agenda, but again, with the New Year comes a new change! I am so excited to start off with my Emily Ley Simplified Planner! Sadly, it's sold out, but I'm sure a boutique near you may have one!
Why I love my Simplified Planner:
one | it't absolutely adorable, I mean the pink and gold is spot on
two | the month-at-a-glance calendar is awesome, I can see all my events, tests, etc. in one place
three | the time slots work for students, not just moms and businesswomen
four | a built-in to-do-list, need I say more?
five | there is an inspirational quote...every day, no way I can lose motivation now
I don't know about you, but I have a really great feeling about this one. If you haven't already, be sure to check out my 2015 goals! What do you hope to improve on?
A lover of the Carolina Coast with hopes of sharing her southern heart and charm with the rest of the world.
