I’ve grown up a Pirate and by grown up I truly mean born and raised a Pirate. I was wearing an ECU bib as an infant, dressing up in my purple and gold cheerleader uniform as a toddler, perfecting my Pirate t-shirt collection as a teen, and imagining my possible life as a “real Pirate” during my senior year.
I also applied to the University of South Carolina, NC State, and UNC-Chapel Hill. I went for many tours and stayed with friends at each school. There was a problem: I liked all of these schools, but didn’t love them.
For most of my life I was given “unofficial tours” at ECU that were filled with college tails from my brother and dad. I realized that I needed an official tour of the school, even though I thought I knew the campus like the backside of my hand, I wrong- there was so much more I hadn’t seen.
During my tour I saw the library, student center, classrooms, and many more places that my “fratatistic” brother probably never went to. As I was walking back from my tour across “The Mall” (basically the grassy common area that every college campus has) I got this little feeling in my tummy. I knew I belonged here.
I always assumed I would go to ECU (just because it’s the school I’ve grown up going to every Saturday in the fall) but going to tour the campus, I realized this is going to be my second home and I couldn’t be happier.
For all of you seniors or high schoolers trying to figure out the next step in your life…
