Y'all, I am so excited for my second guest post with Sally, from Sweetly Sally. Sally is a southern college gal, a lover of pink and simplicity. Be sure to show her some love and follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. I hope y'all enjoy!
After I got accepted into my current college, where I am now, I was bright eyed and bushy tailed. I was beyond excited. After having made my decision of where to go May 1st, I immediately started to plan out everything and I got a little too Pinterest-happy. I had some expectations that overwhelmed me until I moved into my dorm. "College is going to be so fun!" "College is going to be so hard, academically!" "Am I going to make good friends in college?" I was both excited and nervous, and I wanted to start packing for college the day I get graduated high school, granted, I would leave in three months to go move into my dorm.
Were my expectations met? Is college all that I had hoped it to be, and more? Is college that much different than high school? While staying humble, I can answer yes to some of the questions, but I can also answer no to others.
For me, after having finished my first semester of college, I can attest that college is nothing like I thought it would be. My expectations were way off.
For me, college is the most wonderful thing. College for me is filled with wonderful friends that I know will be lifelong. College is filled with already great memories that were worth writing down in my journal. I have made some really great friends already, and I am just a freshman! I have made good grades, and for me, academics are not as much of an issue than I thought they would be. And I'll tellyou why. In college, you have classes, right? Well, unlike in high school, sometimes your classes are spaced out and so you have oodles of time in between and after classes. During these huge gaps of time, you just have to have the discipline to force yourself to do your work. Get your work done when you can. That is my piece of advice. Do your work when all of your friends are in class because at night is when everything happens. Night time is when the runs to Krispy Kreme are made. Nighttime is when you are up until 2 AM giggling with your friends. Nighttime is when everything happens, it's when the memories are made!
For me, college did not live up to my expectations because it turned out to be better than I had imagined. College is a wonderful place where countless memories will be made. But take this to heart. Don't take any of it for granted because it will be over in a blink of an eye. Time flies, what can I say?
I cannot believe that I have already finished my first semester because it went by so fast! I hope that your college experiences are just as great as mine, and remember, do your work, hold on to the memories, and hold on to the moments, and you will be just fine.
